The Twilight Hack is currently the safest method, for the public, to enable homebrew on an un-chipped Wii. The Twilight Hack works thanks to a hacked save of the game "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" which allows a homebrew application to be run from an SD card.
The latest version is compatible with version 3.4 of the Wii's system menu.
For wii's on 3.4, you must use Twilight Hack v0.1 Beta 2!
For wii's (3.1, 3.2, 3.3 V1, 3.3 V2) below these firmwares above, only use Twilight Hack v0.1 Beta 1, and not the latest version!
An SD Card (Reformatted if possible). Those using a computer with Windows (2000, XP, Vista) should rather use SDformatter.
A copy of "The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess" that has already been launched at least once on your Wii.
A way to read SD cards on your computer.
A homebrew to load.
In the zip file, you'll find different versions of the hack for all regions. You must copy the file that matches your region and for American users it will additionally be necessary to check on the game's DVD the matching version. See the list below for the matches between the files and your game.

Step by step
1. Format the SD card on your computer to start from a clean base. For Windows owners (2000, XP, Vista), it's strongly recommended to format the SD card using the software SDFormatter.
2. Download the Twiligh Hack file and extract the file matching your region onto your SD card (see above to know which file to take).
1. You can make a copy of your game save before starting: Copy the save from the Wii's internal memory to the SD card via the console's menu. Then, insert the SD card into your computer and copy the data.bin file from your SD card:\private\wii\title\RZDP or SD card:\private\wii\title\RZDE (depending on which one you have) into another folder on your PC.
3. Now, insert your SD Card into your Wii console and turn it on. Go into Wii Settings --> Data Management --> Saves --> Wii. Find your Zelda save, click on it, select "Delete" and confirm. Then, select your SD card and click on the save named "Twilight Hack" (it's written on the icon "Wiibrew Loader"). Click on "copy" and confirm.
4. Download a homebrew you want and place it at the root of your SD card, see the readme for more information.
5. Start the Wii, insert the Zelda disc and launch the game. Load the save.
6. Walk towards the guy behind and talk to him.
7. And there you go.

7. Et voilà.
it should say: There's another way to launch a homebrew: the homebrew channel which installs on your wii by launching boot.elf via the twilight hack. Once that's done: the channel will be installed. you'll need to create a folder "apps" at the root of your SD card and inside it: create another folder with a name of your choice for Each homebrew. put boot.elf or boot.dol in that folder. Launch the homebrew channel from the wii menu and select your homebrew go to: load.
There are quite a few tutorials on this forum but I don't understand much of it.
So I have a wii version 3.4E. What should I do? It says here that I need to downgrade the wii to version 3.2 and in the tutorial it says the homebrew channel needs to be installed. But how do I do that? Do I need to do the thing with Zelda? If so will it work if I'm on 3.4? It's written in the tutorial from A to Z that it doesn't work for 3.4. So anyway I'm lost.
Could someone be kind enough to enlighten me on the procedure to follow?
Another small question: to crack the wii is it better to do it with the chip or with zelda? Actually I don't really see the difference between the two .
I managed to crack it after 3h of struggle. Gotta say I managed to install the homebrew channel very easily but then it got really hard. Actually I didn't know you had to wipe the whole card again and only keep the apps and wad folder at the source. So if others have this kind of problem, at the very first step I had an error message -1. I didn't understand. But I got there in the end.
But since I don't have a gamecube controller I don't know how to protect it against bricking. What actually causes a wii to brick anyway? I don't even know what that means.
Thanks everyone.
If you install a badly made channel, it bricks your console (no longer possible to access the wii menu!!)
Or if you install an application (CIOS) that's badly made or dangerous...
To go back to Andreea's remark: "But since I don't have a gamecube controller I don't know how to protect it against bricking. ", is there no way to install Starfall without a Gamecube controller?
by pushing a bit on B+1 you can install it without a GC controller
someone lent me Zelda to use the exploit, the whole install went fine everything's spot on but I need to give the zelda back to my buddy..not finding a used zelda I'd like to know if the exploit still exists on the recently released Zelda series, because I'm ready to buy it new just in case my console bricks ...but if they removed the exploit it won't be of use to me..
Thanks in advance
hello
But didn't you install the homebrew channel (la chaîne homebrew) with the twilight hack?
In that case you wouldn't need the game anymore.
If not I'd recommend installing it that way you can give the game back to your friend, you won't need it anymore
I installed the homebrew channel, starfall etc....all is ok but if the console fully bricks you can relaunch it by pressing Y on the GC pad with the zelda game and the twilight hack and so I really do need an original zelda game..or maybe I got it wrong...or not!!!
You're totally right Urbanzak!
Also if you regularly see your friend, in case of a brick, you can always ask him to lend it to you temporarily. It's not every day that you brick your Wii!
Also, a program called BootMii (you may have heard of it...) will be very effective against bricks. Unfortunately, we don't know any release date...
Don't think that I'm encouraging you not to buy Zelda, it's totally legitimate on your part!
EDIT: Also if you install cIOSCORP, a backup of the Zelda game will be enough to boot it with Starfall. But that means you already need to own the original of the game! So I'm just telling you this for information!
Ah yeah nice one you got me! I hadn't thought about the brick.
But at a pinch you can install preloader, which will protect you even better, or as thecoco8 so rightly said, bootmii will show up sooner or later and then we'll be all set ^^
Ah oui bien joué tu m'as eu !
oki thanks for the info I'll look into Preloader and Bootmii...
By the way, sorry to be a pain by insisting , but the latest series of Zelda currently on sale new, do they still have the exploit or not?
Thanks...
