2026 update: this topic dates from 2011 and the tools have changed since. The up-to-date method is in our tutorial Wii: playing your games from a USB hard drive in 2026 (d2x cIOS, WBFS, USB Loader GX). Image unavailable (removed by its host)WiiBackupManager is the Windows utility that prepares Wii games for an external hard drive. It converts an ISO image to WBFS and transfers the files to the drive, from the PC and without going through the console.
This tutorial covers both uses, with screenshots: converting an ISO to WBFS and getting the file on the computer, then transferring a WBFS to the hard drive plugged in over USB. It also shows the shortcut, straight from the ISO to the hard drive.
I tested both and wiibackup manager is clearer and easier for sorting files
then it converts to more formats
being able to rename the games automatically in french
and now with the covers retrieval feature it's great!
on my pc version 0.3.8Build61 under seven 64b doesn't work!!
well that's just my opinion
keep up the good work and thanks everyone for this excellent work
a question about the index and partitions columns, what do those indications correspond to?
thanks.
merci .

I'm looking into it so I don't say anything wrong!

merci

Thanks for this tutorial.
I've been using Wii Backup Manager for a while (version 0.3.8 Build 61).
The only (big) complaint I have about it is how it handles memory under windows!
Indeed, if I have the misfortune of doing something else while it's transferring games (internet, opening another window,...), the transfer rate drops to 0 Mo/s and then it crawls along, it's unbearable!
If anyone has run into the same problem and found a solution, I'd love to hear it
For info, my setup: Win7 64bits, 4GB of ram

well a bit low on ram for a win 7 64bit
For me when I'm on the internet the speed slows down a bit but nothing too bothersome. But under windows anyway memory gets shared no matter what, the more applications you run the more the memory gets split up.
Otherwise apart from that it runs great, but I prefer version 0.3.5 beta1

sniper3d:
I don't think the amount of memory has anything to do with it. I switched versions (0.3.8 Build 60) and now, no more lag. Indeed, when I use the internet, a slight slowdown in speed but like you say, nothing too bothersome.
What's strange with the latest version is that no one else has had the problem (with win7 64bits).
On that note have a good day everyone!
Salut,
sniper3d :
