FileManager: Direct transfer of large files without FTP!!

Hi there! I'm offering this tutorial that I already made and uploaded on another site (our fellows over at LS...), because I think it's useful for those who, like me, struggle with the speed/bugs of FTP transfer ;)

For this, you will need this list:

- A PS3 on FW 3.41 Jailbreak (of course :) ) + the Backup of the game to transfer
- The Homebrew "Awsome File ManagerV0.05b" by the famous coder Comgenie (also contains dedicated Filesplitter) => available on Tgames
- The software "HJ-Split" to split large files (if you don't like the dedicated Filesplitter) => available on Tgames
- An external hard drive formatted in FAT

1) Splitting the large file bigger than 4GB:

2 solutions are available to you, and to explain them I chose the large file pak22.psarc from the game Uncharted2:

> 1st solution: Comgenie Filesplitter:

After launching "Filesplitter", you arrive at this window. Click on the "Choose folder" button and select the folder where your large file to split is located. WARNING: the original file to split will be automatically deleted at the end of the process, so make a backup!:

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> After selecting the folder, Filesplitter directly recognizes the file to split thanks to the .psarc extension and performs the split as shown below:

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> At the end of the split (let it finish quietly...) you'll be notified with a success message like the one below. So you can see that the original 5GB file has disappeared to make way for two other files whose size is under 4GB. All that's left is to put these two files back in the right place in the Uncharted2 game folder, WITHOUT RENAMING/MODIFYING ANYTHING because they're already ready to use!:

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> 2nd solution: HJ-Split:

> After installing and launching "HJ-Split", you arrive at this window:
FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> Then click on the green Split button, and in the second red window that opens like this, click on the red Input File button: in the explorer window that then opens choose the large file bigger than 4GB to split into pieces.

Then, click on the red Output button: in the explorer window that then opens this time choose where to save the created pieces (by default it's the same directory as the file to split, which is already added automatically by HJ-Split...).

Finally, choose the size of the created pieces in Mbytes => prefer 3000 Mbytes i.e. 3GB, because it needs to stay under 4GB AND it lets you have fewer pieces to reassemble afterwards...

> Now click on the red Start button to launch the split!

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> A third small window will open just to show a progress bar of the split. Careful, even if the bar reaches 100% and doesn't disappear, DO NOT CLOSE anything and let it work because the split takes its time for a large file :):

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> At the end of the split, if everything went well one last small window should show Splitting completed, like this:

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> At the end of the split, you should have 2 files (or more if the large file is really VERY big :) like 12GB...). For example for the large file found in the game Uncharted2: pak22.pasarc ==> you'll get 2 file pieces: pak22.psarc.001 and pak22.psarc.002.

> Now, you just need to rename the EXTENSION of these 2 files for it to work correctly when transferring to the PS3:

===> pak22.psarc.001 becomes pak22.psarc
===> pak22.psarc.002 becomes pak22.psarc.1.part

Note: of course if we had 4 pieces, we would have continued like this:

===> pak22. psarc.003 becomes pak22. psarc.2.part
===> pak22. psarc.004 becomes pak22. psarc.3.part
....etc

> You finally have your 2 files with a size under 4GB just like with the first solution. WARNING: the original file to split will NOT be automatically deleted with this second solution at the end of the process, so set the original 5GB file aside and only take the 2 created files.

2) Transferring the game files to the internal drive:

> Whichever solution you chose to do the split, once you've put these two files created by the split back in the right place in the game folder (in the game folder where the large file used to be), for our example of the Uncharted 2 game we end up with this:

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> All that's left is to put the BCES00509 folder (with the two files pak22.pasarc and pak22.pasarc.1.part) at the root of your FAT hard drive.

You also need to:

- create an empty GAMEZ folder at the root of your hard drive because you'll need to add it to the PS3's internal drive, it's actually into this one that you need to copy the BCES00509 game folder...

- copy the Comgenie's Awsome File Manager.pkg file from the Homebrew "Awsome File ManagerV0.04" to the root of your external hard drive or onto a FAT usb stick.

> Time to move over to the PS3 side: start your console with the PSgroove Hack.

> Install the Homebrew "Awsome File Manager V0.04", if not already done, by going to the Install Packages Files folder on the PS3's XMB and choosing the Comgenie's Awsome FileManager.pkg package to install it.

> Plug your external hard drive (and your usb stick if you're using one...) into the console, and launch the Comgenie's Awsome FileManager Homebrew on the XMB:

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> You then arrive on a blue screen with two directory indexes at the top left and top right of the screen, and with the possible controller commands (open, copy, delete, Toggle) at the bottom.

Note 1: Toggle lets you switch from Normal mode (only copying files) to Advanced mode (copying and deleting files. In Normal mode the screen is blue, in Advanced mode the screen is red! So be careful what you do and absolutely stay in Normal mode ;)

Note 2: on some SD or HD TV screens, the text might be cut off on the sides.

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> We're going to select the BCES00509 game folder to copy which is on the external hard drive plugged into the console. To do this, press the right button on the controller's pad to move to the index on the right of the screen: you'll see that the text on the right is yellow! Then use the Up/Down buttons on the controller's pad to position the small arrow on dev_usb001 [Directory] and press the X button on the controller. Then reposition the small arrow on BCES00509 [Directory]. You should have this on screen:

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> Then, we're going to select the internal hard drive directory into which we're going to copy our game. To do this, press the left button on the controller's pad to move to the index on the left of the screen: you'll see that the text on the left is yellow!

Then use the Up/Down buttons on the controller's pad to do these operations:

1 - position the small arrow on dev_hdd0 [Directory] and press the X button on the controller.

2- Then reposition the small arrow on game [Directory] and press the X button on the controller.

3- Then reposition the small arrow on LAUN12345 [Directory] and press the X button on the controller.

4- Then reposition the small arrow on GAMEZ [Directory] and press the X button on the controller. Careful, if you don't have a GAMEZ folder showing in the list, you must first create it by doing this step 4BIS and then resume from step 4:
4BIS- Using the right button on the pad move back to the right (the text on the right turns yellow again!) and position the small arrow on the GAMEZ folder (empty folder that we created at the root of the external hard drive just for this step!). Then just press the O (circle) button on the controller. A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the screen, you need to press the START button to launch the copy of the GAMEZ folder which is very fast. If everything goes well you should see a GAMEZ folder appear in the index on the left of the screen. To finish put the small arrow back on BCES00509 [Directory], and press the left button on the pad to move back to the left of the screen (the text on the left turns yellow again!). You can now do the previous step 4 and continue.
5- Then reposition the small arrow on .. [Directory]. You should have this on screen:
FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

6- Using the right button on the pad move back to the right of the screen (the text on the right turns yellow again!), and FINALLY press the O (circle) button on the controller to launch the copy of the complete BCES00509 folder to the GAMEZ directory. A confirmation message appears at the bottom of the screen, you need to press the START button. The copy then starts and you should see at the bottom of the screen the copy process with the info (size of file being processed, percentage done) of the files currently being processed! You should finally have this on screen:

FileManager: Transfert direct de gros fichiers sans FTP !!

> Once the copy is finished ( about 8GB in 15 minutes ;) ) , the copy process disappears from the bottom of the screen. You just need to check that you do have a BCES00509 folder showing in the index on the left of the screen.

> Now, press the PS button (in the center) on the controller and do "Quit" to go back to the console's XMB. Then launch the Backup Manager Homebrew (introduced elsewhere), and normally you should see your transferred game appear on the internal hard drive... Enjoy!

Final Note!: WARNING, IF YOU DECIDE TO REMOVE the BACKUP MANAGER Homebrew (for one reason or another...) know that ALL the games installed on the PS3's internal hard drive will be deleted!!! So make backups ;)
