Hell Hibou offers a modified version of Wii GameCube Homebrew Launcher, a homebrew originally created by Mega Man that lets you launch homebrews that only work on GameCube.
It notably allows using an ISO loader for GC games. This version has been modified so it can be used more easily with Wii Homebrew Launcher. To use it, you'll need at least version 0.9 of Wii Homebrew Launcher.
News/fixes:
- Added support for SDHC cards.
- Faster file loading.
- Use of libfat's device naming when passing arguments (fat1:, fat2:, ...)
PS: For the GC ISO loader, would love someone to explain to me
- To install the Wii GameCube Launcher, you need to get the file "RVL-mios-v5.wad.out.wad"
You can find it on Mario kart or smash brothers.
Make sure it's renamed to "RVL-mios-v5.wad.out.wad" otherwise it won't work.
- Once you have the file, copy it to the root of the SD card
- Put the "MIOSPatchingWADInstaller" folder, which will patch the MIOS, in the "apps" folder.
- Then, put "GCBooterHomebrew PAL60" in the "apps" folder
- Take sdboot.dol and rename it to "start.dol" and put it at the root of the SD card
The SD card is ready
- Put the SD card in the Wii and launch "MIOSPatchingWADInstaller" with the Homebrew Channel
- Plug in a GameCube controller and press A, the patching happens. At the end, it'll go back to the homebrew channel
- The patching is done, launch Sdboot by running GCBooterHomebrew
For sdboot to work you need to have an original GameCube game in the Wii
Original gamecube games will still work.
For the sd card to put in the sdgeko:
Create a GCGAMES folder at the root of the card
put the .iso or .gcm files in this folder
I recommend using port b of the sdgekko slot otherwise you won't be able to save your games
SdBoot 0.4
I think there's a more recent version but I don't remember where to find it.
.
There, I hope I answered your question and glad if it helps.
I tested it, it works pretty well.
Thanks a lot for the explanations.
I'm suddenly a lot less motivated
I hope one day we'll get a nice GC loader directly compatible with Wii homebrews.
The SD Gecko lets you read an SD card via the Game Cube's memory card port. It lets you launch homebrews, just like you do with your SD card in the Wii. Since the GC loader is a GC homebrew and not a Wii one, it can only read the SD Gecko, not the Wii's built-in SD reader.
I don't know though if you can use the SD gecko to make saves in GC games.
Hi everyone! I have a problem with the tutorial, when I get to SDboot, it asks me to insert my SD card in slot A, I do it, I press A with my GC controller but nothing happens, I also tried with slot B, and I did put an original GC game in.
I didn't quite understand the part of the tutorial that says "launch SDboot by running GChomebrew" maybe that's why, thanks for helping me
PS: I did rename start.dol to boot.dol so my homebrew channel could recognize it
Salut a tous!
actually sdboot needs to be at the root of your sd card and you need to rename it to start.dol
then in the homebrew channel you launch gcbooter homebrew
afterwards it launches sdboot automatically
if you go directly through sdboot it doesn't work it gets stuck
Also your gamecube memory card shouldn't be plugged into the slot at the same time sdboot reads the sdgekko.
You insert it once the game is launched for example.
There, I hope that helped you.
I did put start.dol at the root of my card, I launch GCbooterhomebrew and it tells me "failed to load .dol file" yet I did put start.dol at the root and I'm in fat32 and I patch the Mios
So I don't know what to do anymore
If you have a USB gecko you can launch Gamecube ISOs via the PC (but you also need an SD Gecko to switch to Gamecube mode and an Action Replay disc or SD Media launcher, because the modified MIOS doesn't support Gamecube discs).
With USB Boot, it's not very fast but it works, I was able to test it since I have these 3 things (USB Gecko + SD Gecko + SD Media Launcher)
No I have an SDgecko, but it won't read the start.dol at the root of the SD card, Yet I'm following the tutorial to the letter. I don't understand
Wow you're well equipped
OK now I manage to launch SDboot from GCbooterhomebrew pal60, it was my .WAD it was 0 bytes but not from GCbooterhomebrew (no disk), but when I launch it with GCbooterhomebrew pal60, I select my iso, and there it reads the original game inserted in the wii instead of the iso
PLS help me!
