No no, I'm not talking about Super Mario All-Stars here, but about an underground alternative to that game. Actually, I think it would be quite simple to make, but I don't know anything about programming so I can't guarantee anything!
The "game" would take the form of a list (after a possible video intro) of the Mario games released up to the Gamecube era, with the games' box art and release year. Basically, a bit like All-Stars but more modern, for something that "hits harder", let's say! After clicking on a game, you'd have access to its retrospective, info about it, the controllers it's playable with, etc... The final goal being to offer what Nintendo SHOULD have offered...
How would it work? I actually thought of a kind of global forwarder, where you could access the games in a way technically similar to Wiiflow and the like. By clicking a "play" button after selecting a game, you'd then boot directly into the game.
At first, I had thought that we could boot all the games in Virtual Console format, but that would have excluded off the bat all the excellent portable Marios and a few Marios not present on Virtual Console and not injectable into wads (Yoshi's Island, argh!)... But I found the solution on Tgames: autoboot emulator roms! (I'll let you read about it here: homebrew-wii/iso-homebrew-wiiware-virtu ... tml#p53537 / questions-aide-wii/injecter-deux-roms-d ... tml#p69042 )
Basically, it automatically loads a game via its associated emulator, which would allow loading the NES, SNES, GB, GBC and GBA Marios. Unfortunately, I didn't fully understand the technique that Tongpall apparently managed to recreate, but it's apparently easily doable! For the Marios present on N64, we'd have to use the Virtual Console images of the games (or their injected versions) at that point, which wouldn't be a problem once everything is set up. The BIG problem then comes with, obviously, Super Mario Sunshine on GameCube...
For everything to work correctly with this last one, the Super Mario Collection iso would necessarily have to be burned onto a DVD. In that case, SMS could be loaded by a cMios in the classic way if present on the same DVD as the general forwarder (and on compatible Wiis).
Now, let's talk about the content! I think that to be as complete as possible without overdoing it either (let's limit ourselves to "real" Marios for now!), these games would absolutely be needed:
- Donkey Kong
- Wrecking Crew
- Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels
- Super Mario Bros. 2 (and Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic as a possible bonus)
- Super Mario Land
- Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
- Super Mario World
- Yoshi's Island: Super Mario World 2
- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario Sunshine
We could even give Nintendo a little dig by offering the Super Mario All-Stars rom on SNES so we could play the reworked NES titles!
This list could easily be filled out with the Wario and Yoshi games, closely tied to the Super Mario games:
- Yoshi's Story
- Wario Land: Super Mario Land 2
- Wario Land 2
- Wario Land 3
- Wario Land 4
It would also be hard to stay silent about certain games that aren't part of the main series but are quite notable!
- Mario Paint
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- Paper Mario
- Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
- Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Aside from the fairly large GameCube games (1.35 GB if not scrubbed), the rest would take up almost no space and the whole thing would easily fit on a DVD, I think.
At first, I think it would already be huge to get that far! (later, we could even consider adding the Wii games but that's dreaming, it will never fit!). I don't think the coding itself would be very hard... It would be similar to a kind of mix of homebrew loader, µloader and other usb loaders... On the other hand, it's likely to take quite a while, though interesting! Indeed, nothing would stop us from being able to do the same thing later for sagas like Zelda, or even Metroid!
If people feel up for it, let them say so, it'll take several people to reach a satisfying result!
- Donkey Kong
- Wrecking Crew
- Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros.
- Super Mario Bros. : The Lost Levels
- Super Mario Bros. 2 (et Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic en bonus éventuel)
- Super Mario Land
- Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
- Super Mario World
- Yoshi's Island : Super Mario World 2
- Super Mario 64
- Super Mario Sunshine
- Yoshi's Story
- Wario Land : Super Mario Land 2
- Wario Land 2
- Wario Land 3
- Wario Land 4
- Mario Paint
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars
- Paper Mario
- Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
So first of all, here's a project that Nintendo should have come up with and not coders!
The project is interesting, I had looked into emulators that autoboot 1 rom, but nobody could help me. Papatoni had managed to make something that worked with Yoshi's Island (with ISO forwarder), but I couldn't reproduce the same thing when I tried with another Rom.

But since I didn't manage to move forward, the project was scrapped. Too bad
That's really too bad... It seems to me though that you're able to launch a .dol working perfectly with this method right? So nothing is lost!
Yeah, here's what needs to be put in apps for Link's awakening DX on GB. The settings.xml file lets you launch the rom that's in apps/lozgbdx/rom and save in apps/lozgbdx/save.

(Forget the ISO and the WAD they don't work)

link removed... little reminder: wads and roms are forbidden on the forum.
Thanks for not doing that again

Giantpune did something similar with his ISO "Punemu".
It's a multi-emulator ISO into which you inject your own ROMs.
You launch it via Wiiflow, there's a menu, you choose the emulator, and you play the injected games.
That could be a good base.
