II Installing XK3Y
III Preparing the HDD
IV Using ISOMenu
V Using DVDMenu
I Preparing the MicroSD card:
First of all we'll need some software:
- USB Image Tools
- Image SD 1.20 Beta 10 (Thanks Pinky)
- Download them, once that's done insert the MicroSD into the computer and launch USB Image Tools:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Select your MicroSD (on the left) and click on Restore:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - A window opens, select the file 1.20B10.img:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - A message asks you to confirm, click "Yes":
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Wait and once restored, open your MicroSD and delete all the files:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - We're now going to copy our ORIGINAL key from our drive onto the MicroSD
- You'll need to either have retrieved it yourself depending on the drive, or go through a "professional" to retrieve it.
- Copy the Dummy.bin file onto the MicroSD.
- If it's an Xbox 360 Fat, you'll need to rename the Dummy file to Firmware
- Once the hardest part is done, let's now move on to installing the XK3Y itself.
II Installing XK3Y
- Here's the contents at purchase:
- The PCB and its MicroSD card in its pouch
- A USB Dongle
- 2 Ribbon cables (One Small and one Large)
- A Micro USB Cable
- A Remote control
- A SATA Cable
- A Power Cable
- An insulating cardboard
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Let's take the PCB and connect it as shown below:
Image unavailable (removed by its host)
(Click to enlarge) - Insert the MicroSD into the PCB
- Connect one of the 2 ribbon cables depending on the console to the PCB, run it over the USB ports (see photos) and connect it to the dongle (be careful of the direction, the Blue green facing you once the dongle is connected):
My Advice:
For an Xbox 360 Slim: Take the small one and connect the dongle behind
For an Xbox 360 Fat: Take the large ribbon cable and connect it with the dongle at the front
Image unavailable (removed by its host) Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Insert the insulating cardboard to avoid any short circuit or overheating.
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Now all you have to do is test it, leave the console open in case a problem (E64, or other...) persists.
III Preparing the HDD
- First of all format your hard drive in NTFS:
- To do this Computer -> Right-click on the HDD then Format
WARNING: Formatting deletes all data located on the HDD, you alone can be held responsible. - For File system select NTFS and give the name you want to your HDD:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Confirm the message Windows will display and wait.
- Once formatting is done, create a folder named "GAMES" at the root of your HDD
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Your games are to be copied into this folder (your .ISO)
- All that's left is to copy the XK3Y.CFG file onto your HDD and configure it.
- Download the XK3Y.CFG Base file
- Copy it to the root of your HDD:
- Open it with NotePad++ or a text editor (Notepad...) and let's study it:
The Language:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Useful for choosing the language of the remote (if you use it of course)
Labeling on Slim:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Only used for Slims with reconditioned drives
Wifi Mode (using the Wifi Dongle):
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Allows launching games via a device with Wifi (Phone, Computers ....)
The ISOMenu:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Allows launching games via the console without getting up, and without using the XK3Y remote
The DVDMenu:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Brand new mode, allowing games to be launched via a CoverFlow style, a replacement for the ISOMenu.
Resumlast Game:
Image unavailable (removed by its host) - Allows automatic launch of the last game launched via the XK3Y
- Here the file is configured in French for a "normal" FAT or Slim without the Wifi Dongle with the ISO Menu enabled and the ResumLast option enabled.
- So let's see how it works.
