GTA IV runs natively on Mac, iPad and Apple TV
Liberty Pro Max recompiles GTA IV (PC) for Apple silicon Macs and iPads, from your own copy: Metal renderer, 90 fps on an M3 Pro and about a hundred fixes.
GTA IV recompiled for Apple silicon
On November 2, 2026, Awis13 released Liberty Pro Max, an unofficial port of GTA IV for Mac, iPad and, experimentally, Apple TV. Version 0.3.4 came out on November 5. It is a static recompilation of the PC version 1.0.8.0 with x86recomp: the game's x86 code is translated to C++ and then compiled for Apple silicon. No Wine, no emulation, no virtual machine. The Metal renderer was written for the port.
The repository contains nothing from the game: you compile it on your Mac from your own copy of the PC version.
What the port offers
What you need
Caution
It is a beta: the story can be played by loading a save and the city can be explored on Mac as well as on iPad, but the author warns that rough edges remain. Since the Builder is not signed, only download it from the project's GitHub page. On consoles, GTA IV also runs natively on a jailbroken PS5.

What the port offers
- on Mac: about 90 fps on average in the city on an M3 Pro, at 3440×1440 and maximum settings (about 125 indoors), with no 30 or 60 fps cap;
- on an iPad Air M4: 60 fps indoors, 45 to 60 outdoors, with touch controls;
- TAA, SMAA and MetalFX, ultrawide screens and an adjustable field of view;
- about a hundred fixes inspired by FusionFix and ZolikaPatch (high frame rate physics, cameras, lights, mirrors, water), each one a switch in the launcher;
- the episodes The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony if they are in the game folder, a mods folder (files only, no.asi or.dll) and saves shared through iCloud.
What you need
- your PC copy of GTA IV, version 1.0.8.0, with the original GTAIV.exe signed by Rockstar: a modified or cracked executable is rejected, and the Complete Edition (1.2.0.x) is not supported;
- an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or later) running macOS 15 or later, with the Xcode command line tools and about 6 GB free;
- the Builder, an app that compiles the game in 5 to 20 minutes, without the Terminal. It is not signed by Apple: macOS asks for confirmation the first time you open it.
